Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono Reveals the Teammate Who Has Surprised Him Most

Real Madrid’s summer signing Franco Mastantuono is quickly making waves in Spain. The 18-year-old Argentine talent scored his first goal for the club in the 4-1 win over UD Levante on Tuesday, marking a special moment in what already looks to be a promising start to life in Madrid.

Despite his young age, Mastantuono has settled in remarkably well under Xabi Alonso, showing flashes of the talent that made him one of the most sought-after prospects in South America. However, the return of Jude Bellingham from injury means competition for places will be fierce, with the teenager and Arda Güler both vying for minutes.

Mastantuono Amazed by Bellingham

Asked about Bellingham’s comeback and what it means for his role in the squad, Mastantuono didn’t hesitate to express his admiration for the England international.

“An incredible player! If we could play with twelve, even better. Jude is incredible — a player who impressed me, a wonderful person and a unique footballer,” Mastantuono said.

“Honestly, I’ve never seen a player like him: the authority, the presence he brings on the pitch. I hope he’s back soon because he’s going to help us a lot.”

When pressed on which teammate had surprised him the most since joining Madrid, his answer was immediate:

“Bellingham, without a doubt. The way he carries himself, his calmness, his determination… it’s something I’ve never experienced before. He’s unique.”

Impressed by Madrid’s Humility

While Bellingham has left the biggest mark on him, Mastantuono also praised the collective character of his new teammates.

“What’s surprised me most about Real Madrid is the humility. Carvajal has six Champions League titles and he’s one of the most humble people you’ll ever meet, a true leader,” he explained.

“The same goes for Kylian, Vinícius, Jude… they’re all players at the top of world football, yet they’re so down-to-earth and supportive. That’s made me feel at home straight away.”

First Goal and Settling In

Reflecting on his debut goal in Madrid colours, Mastantuono couldn’t hide his excitement.

“Well… I missed a few chances too (laughs), but luckily it finally came. To be honest, I was expecting it — not because I was desperate, but because it was a step towards building confidence and establishing myself here,” he said.

Despite only being at the club for just over a month, Mastantuono already feels part of the Madrid family.

“It feels like I’ve been here longer, but that’s because of my teammates. They’ve given me confidence, made me feel comfortable. It’s not easy leaving your family and moving to a new country, but the club and the players have made it much easier.”

Staying True to His Game

On whether he’s had to change his style to adapt to Madrid, Mastantuono was clear:

“No, no. I’m always myself. I try to bring my game, my personality, to help the team. That’s why Madrid signed me, and I’ll keep doing that. For me, the most important thing is that the team wins. The individual achievements will come later.”

When asked how much of the “real Mastantuono” fans have seen so far, he admitted he is still adapting.

“I’m getting used to a new league, a new country, a new team. It’s a big step coming from Argentina to Europe, but every game I feel more comfortable. I’ve got a lot more to give, and I believe this year will be incredible for me and for the team.”

At just 18, Franco Mastantuono already looks at home in one of the most demanding clubs in the world. With his first goal under his belt and glowing praise for Jude Bellingham, it’s clear he’s both ambitious and grounded. If his early words and performances are any indication, Real Madrid fans could be watching the rise of their next great star.
